Review process
This site informs about the review process for the 2011 Colorado Conference on Earth System Governance.
The call for papers closed on 15 September 2010. Our International Review Panel reviewed all abstracts submitted by that date. Authors of submitted abstracts were notified per email on the outcome of the review process around 20 November 2010.
The review system for the 2011 Colorado Conference on Earth System Governance is as follows:
- All abstracts were evaluated independently and anonymously by at least 4 members of the International Review Panel, allotted on a random basis.
- Abstracts were ranked on a scale from 5 points (excellent/highly appropriate for the conference) to 1 point (not appropriate/rejection).
- Based on the five grades that we received for each abstract from our review panel, we calculated an average grade for every abstract, and then ranked all abstracts accordingly. To the extent possible, we also took written comments from reviewers into account, and we specifically looked at abstracts where evaluators have differed by more than 2 points.
- We received 333 abstracts from colleagues in 39 countries, with a generally very high quality. In order to keep the conference at a reasonable size to allow for meaningful discussions we decided to accept the best 230 abstracts, thus ensuring an acceptance rate of less than 70%.
