Frequently asked questions
ACCOMMODATION AND TRAVEL
Will accommodation be provided?
No, accommodation will not be provided. All participants need to arrange travel and accommodation themselves; it is not included in the registration fee. Blocks of rooms at a discounted rate have been reserved at three hotels within easy walking distance of the conference venue. For more information see our Travel page.
REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT
Is financial support available?
The conference recently awarded travel grants to 23 authors of accepted abstracts from developing countries and/or enrolled as graduate students. These grants were made possible thanks to the generous support of our sponsors. A committee consisting of members of our international steering committee and a representative from one of our sponsors reviewed the applications. The committee considered a number of different factors including need, availability of additional funds, and the potential benefits of participation. The applications with the highest ratings were accepted for funding. If additional funding or support is made available, we will only notify those with accepted abstracts.
For those who do not have an accepted abstract for the 2011 Colorado Conference, there will be no funding available.
Is a reduced registration fee available?
There are reduced registration fees for students, participants from developing countries, and members of co-sponsoring institutions or of the International Review Panel for the 2011 Colorado Conference. For additional information, visit the Registration page.
Can I attend the conference for just one day?
The 2011 Colorado Conference does not have a special day-rate. You are welcome to attend for just one day, however the full registration fee will still apply.
How do I register for the 2011 Colorado Conference?
Registration is required for all participants, and the number of participants is limited. To register for the 2011 Colorado Conference visit the conference registration website (link CS registration website). For additional information about registration fees and other details, please visit the Registration page.
Can I get a Letter of Invitation to obtain a visa?
The conference organizers are glad to issue a Letter of Invitation to registered participants who have already paid their registration fee. Please address your request to esg2011@colostate.edu. Your request should contain your full name, the address where the letter should be sent, and your registration confirmation code (located at the bottom of your registration confirmation). Please note that requests for Letters of Invitation will only be processed if both registration and payment are complete. The conference organization will not respond to requests that do not meet these requirements. Unfortunately, we cannot offer further assistance in the visa application procedure and we reserve the right to deny issuing a Letter of Invitation without providing reason.
PAPERS AND PRESENTATIONS
Has my paper abstract been accepted?
On 20 November 2010 all authors of paper abstracts were informed about the outcome of the review process by email. If you submitted an abstract but did not receive the notification than contact the conference organizers at esg2011@colostate.edu. Please first check to see if your spam filter maybe blocked the email.
Are there guidelines for full papers?
Given that this is an interdisciplinary conference, participants are encouraged to draw on their own disciplinary norms and standards for paper length and format. The scientific quality of your paper is most important. Basic voluntary guidelines are available for download here. Please note that the deadline for submission of full papers (preferably in pdf format) is 1 May 2011.
How do I know what day and time I will present?
Is there a conference schedule available?
With regard to timing, the conference will commence on Tuesday 17 May with an evening reception. The conference will conclude on the evening of Friday 20 May with a final conference dinner. A downloadable conference program is now available to look over the conference and presentation schedules.
What if I am unable to attend the conference to present my paper?
If you are unable to attend the conference, please notify us (email: esg2011@colostate.com, or phone: +1 (970) 492-4212) as soon as possible so we are able to arrange the program accordingly.
If you are willing to do so, we would still accept your final paper and post it to the website so participants can read your work. At this point we are unsure what type of online participation we will be able to offer, but will be sure to keep you updated as we move closer to the conference date. You can also check our conference website periodically for updates.
If you have already registered for the conference online, you will need to contact the office of Conference Services (at +1 (970) 491-7501, Fax +1 (970) 491-7747, or e-mail conferences@colostate.edu) as soon as possible to process your registration cancellation request.
How do I submit my full paper for the conference?
Authors of accepted conference abstracts can upload their full conference papers at the Oxford Abstracts conference website by using the same login information used for abstract submissions. Papers should be uploaded by 1 May 2011.
Will there be any field trips on the day following the conference?
On Saturday 21 May, we have arranged a field trip to the world-renowned Rocky Mountain National Park, located an hour from Fort Collins. Participants will visit some of the sites within the park, and a local naturalist will introduce participants to the Park’s unique ecosystem and discuss how the Park represents a microcosm of the environmental challenges facing the American West. There will be free time at the park visitor center and for dinner in the town of Estes Park, located at the entrance to the park. The cost of the field trip will be approximately $40 USD per person, payable upon arrival at the conference. The field trip will include transportation, park entrance fees and lunch. Space is available for approximately 50 people on this field trip; spots can be reserved upon arrival at the conference.
What kind of transportation is available from Denver International Airport to Fort Collins?
Our conference is partnering with local shuttle company Greenride Colorado to provide conference participants with discounted transportation to and from Denver International Airport. A conference participant-specific webpage for reserving shuttles at the discounted rate will be available shortly. Please check back the week of 25 April for further details.
